7:00 a.m – 9:00 a.m.
With the number of uninsured in the United States now topping 47 million, and the cost of the nation’s health care now consuming over 15% of America’s GDP, it’s no surprise that both presumed candidates for President of the United States are unveiling plans to address our national crisis. How do they differ and how will either plan mesh with the efforts underway for state reform? How will the next President plan to lead the country to improving health as well as addressing the problems within the systems of health care?
Senator Barack Obama and Senator John McCain have been asked to identify a surrogate speaker to outline the details of their health plans; someone who can speak with confidence to their candidate’s policy platform and be ready for a vigorous debate on the optimal pathways toward change. U.S. Congressman Earl Blumenauer has taken the challenge and the McCain team is finalizing the Senator’s representative soon. With The Oregonian’s Pulitzer Prize winner Doug Bates in the moderator’s seat, you will get the first true side-by-side comparison of the Senators’ proposals—and the opportunity to ask your own questions as well. A blockbuster event for an August morning, don’t miss it!
